Reasonable read, however pretty outdated and lots of sections not really applicable outside of the USA。

This book was written in 2008 ish so it felt pretty outdated。 I also do 90% of the things in the book so felt like I didn’t learn much。 Plus any book that tells you to eat before a holiday party so you don’t gain weight is a no in my book 🤦‍♀️

Definitely dated in some areas (ex: address book, how to store photos), but not surprising since it was published in 2008。 That being said, there were some great nuggets for getting (and staying) organized。 I appreciated the idea of taking each topic month-by-month and then breaking those to-do items further into week by week。 While not totally organized, I feel SO much better about the majority of the spaces in my house and feel confident that the worst areas (basement, spare bedroom, garage) w Definitely dated in some areas (ex: address book, how to store photos), but not surprising since it was published in 2008。 That being said, there were some great nuggets for getting (and staying) organized。 I appreciated the idea of taking each topic month-by-month and then breaking those to-do items further into week by week。 While not totally organized, I feel SO much better about the majority of the spaces in my house and feel confident that the worst areas (basement, spare bedroom, garage) will be taken care of in the next few months!"Who would you be if you felt at peace and had more time and money? I made it through chapter two。 The book wasn’t dull, I just wasn’t getting anything useful from it。 If anything, I felt encouraged to buy new organizing products。 I think people reading books on organization struggle with the basics and this book seemed to give one short tip a month (February’s was put your clothes away as soon as you take them off) and the rest of the chapter is about designing dream spaces via journaling and dream boards。

Great read to start off the year。 Cleaning things out。 Bought the book to follow closer。 Even though it has some "old" moments the concept still stands。 Great read to start off the year。 Cleaning things out。 Bought the book to follow closer。 Even though it has some "old" moments the concept still stands。 。。。more

I can sum this up in one sentence: go drop 5 grand at the container store。 You’re welcome。

It is nice that it is divided into 12 chapters, one for each month of the year。 Also, the book gives very specific tasks to complete so it is easy to follow with its organizational process。 However, I had the impression that the book was very much oriented towards a specific audience, that is, stay-at-home moms with children。 Many parts of the books are in fact impossible to complete for a single working person due to time constraints, while some other parts are just not relevant for younger peo It is nice that it is divided into 12 chapters, one for each month of the year。 Also, the book gives very specific tasks to complete so it is easy to follow with its organizational process。 However, I had the impression that the book was very much oriented towards a specific audience, that is, stay-at-home moms with children。 Many parts of the books are in fact impossible to complete for a single working person due to time constraints, while some other parts are just not relevant for younger people。 On the other hand, the writing is easy to follow, clear and direct。 So it doesn’t create any difficulty。 I do believe that some of the tips could prove useful for some people but I think this book is more made to be skimmed through looking at the sections that are relevant for each reader, rather than being a reading that needs to be completed from beginning to end。 。。。more

Not one I'd recommend。 I stopped around September, which turns out to have been very wise, since every month thereafter is dedicated to inapplicable aspects of life (because I do not have children, nor multiple living spaces to contend with, nor children or spouses to whom I could delegate, nor do I entertain in the manner imagined by the author)。 The heterosexism of this book is utterly pervasive, like a stench you can't be sure you're still actually smelling after all this time。 Not one I'd recommend。 I stopped around September, which turns out to have been very wise, since every month thereafter is dedicated to inapplicable aspects of life (because I do not have children, nor multiple living spaces to contend with, nor children or spouses to whom I could delegate, nor do I entertain in the manner imagined by the author)。 The heterosexism of this book is utterly pervasive, like a stench you can't be sure you're still actually smelling after all this time。 。。。more

A lot of the book is irrelevant if you don't live in the USA。 A whole month to organise Thanksgiving and another month on Christmas? Spend less time journalling and contemplating the task and more on actual physical work and you can be organised in far less time。 2。5 stars。 A lot of the book is irrelevant if you don't live in the USA。 A whole month to organise Thanksgiving and another month on Christmas? This book is about organizing your house and getting rid of clutter。 The author gives a week-by-week, month-to-month plan that can be started any month of the year depending on which area you want to work on first。 Regina Leeds is a professional organizer and has some good suggestions and tips。 Many of them, I already knew and had put into practice over the years。 3 stars ⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️

I really wanted to like this - on the surface it seemed like it had a lot of promise - organise your life in 52 weeks with a focus by area for each month。 What’s not to like?Unfortunately, this book really missed the mark for me - I’m clearly not the target audience as I don’t have a bathroom filled with favours from first class flights, nor a second house in the Hamptons 😂😂。 Also surely not every organising problem requires hours of introspective journaling, creating dream boards or endlessly s I really wanted to like this - on the surface it seemed like it had a lot of promise - organise your life in 52 weeks with a focus by area for each month。 What’s not to like?Unfortunately, this book really missed the mark for me - I’m clearly not the target audience as I don’t have a bathroom filled with favours from first class flights, nor a second house in the Hamptons 😂😂。 Also surely not every organising problem requires hours of introspective journaling, creating dream boards or endlessly shopping for storage supplies。 The useful advice could have fitted on a one page check list and basically amounts to organising things straight away (make the bed when you get up, do the dishes straight away etc)。 Fortunately, I borrowed this from the library so I only wasted my time rather than my money。 There are much better books in this genre。 。。。more

Boring and repetitive。 Possibly a good intro to someone who's never organized even their medicine cabinet。 But mostly just very prescriptive (how to organize like her vs how to learn the tools of organizing) and repetitive。 The author literally lists out the order and type of filing cabinet contents by file folder。。。kill me now。 Boring and repetitive。 Possibly a good intro to someone who's never organized even their medicine cabinet。 But mostly just very prescriptive (how to organize like her vs how to learn the tools of organizing) and repetitive。 The author literally lists out the order and type of filing cabinet contents by file folder。。。kill me now。 。。。more

To be honest, I only skimmed this book。 The introduction makes it clear that the book is for people whose homes are out of control。 As somewhat of an organization nut, I didn’t see myself in its pages and didn’t find the content relevant to me。

This book is perfect for someone who is committed to a slow process of organizing their life。 People looking for a quick process would probably be frustrated with this book。 I previously lived my life in similar accordance to the outline of this book so I was not able to take much away, that being said I still believe there is great information in between these covers and I enjoyed my read。

I think I read this, or tried to read this last year during the Kon Mari craze。The book does give you incite to organizing, but somethings like scrap-booking or moving are not applicable to me, or not my interest。I prefer the Kon Mari episodes on Netflix the most out of all the organization information I have researched。 I only watched 3, but I watched them with my husband, who was impacted the most by them and started helping around the house more。

This book was very informative。 Lots of tips and tricks to get your life under control。

Laura Applebee

DNF - this is for rich ladies with no common sense, out of touch and dated。

Amber

The author seemed to contradict herself a few times and the advice was too high maintanence for me, but I did enjoy reading her book to find the motivation I needed to find ways to be more organized。 I loved the chapter that suggested what kind of chores children are capable of per age group because sometimes I forget that my baby is turning into a toddler and entering that prime age to start contributing to the family。

Laura (ローラ)

Dated and out-of-touch。

Need to read it again!

Listened to this as an audiobook - twice in a row! First time through I listened to the whole; second time through I skipped around to sections where I wanted encouragement。 Author narrates it and is easy to listen to。 I don’t plan to follow through with her program in an organized way, but I appreciate her calmly laid out suggestions。 Her focus is “Zen organizing” - I listened as I cooked or drove or folded laundry and let her voice wash over me - I guess I’m hoping that the motivation to declu Listened to this as an audiobook - twice in a row! I must have checked out and browsed this book at least a few times since it was released。 And I think it's only now listening to the audiobook that I actually finished。 It's good to have in the background as you clean and you'll probably pick up some good pointers here and there。 I must have checked out and browsed this book at least a few times since it was released。 And I think it's only now listening to the audiobook that I actually finished。 It's good to have in the background as you clean and you'll probably pick up some good pointers here and there。 。。。more

This book is SO dated, and seems to be geared towards the upper/middle class stay at home mom。

I will start with the good, concept: one year to organize your whole life (excellent), timeline: every month coordinates with a designated area。。。bedroom, office, even holiday chaos etc。 (excellent) focus/content: very through room by room and task by task, everything organized, sorted, decluttered, also the expertise was much appreciated (excellent) literary abilities: it is definitely well written。。。。which consequently leads me to the bad。 It was a little too wordy for me for a book of this na I will start with the good, concept: one year to organize your whole life (excellent), timeline: every month coordinates with a designated area。。。bedroom, office, even holiday chaos etc。 (excellent) focus/content: very through room by room and task by task, everything organized, sorted, decluttered, also the expertise was much appreciated (excellent) literary abilities: it is definitely well written。。。。which consequently leads me to the bad。 It was a little too wordy for me for a book of this nature。 Some of the narratives could have been left out, and I am also a visual person when it comes to home, organizing, and cleaning。 This book has no visuals! Lastly, while it was a good book, it was nothing ground-breaking。 I ended up abandoning this book and not finishing it which is rare for me。 。。。more

Not going to finish this。 It's very much a guide to organizing that assumes you are fairly wealthy and can afford tons of things from storage boxes to renting dumpsters to hiring pros for certain things。 All of Leeds's customer examples are wealthy folks in Los Angeles, not very relatable。 The general advice is good, but the overall tone is out of date and also deeply heteronormative in its assumptions about motherhood, etc。 Just。。。 meh。 Not going to finish this。 It's very much a guide to organizing that assumes you are fairly wealthy and can afford tons of things from storage boxes to renting dumpsters to hiring pros for certain things。 All of Leeds's customer examples are wealthy folks in Los Angeles, not very relatable。 The general advice is good, but the overall tone is out of date and also deeply heteronormative in its assumptions about motherhood, etc。 Just。。。 meh。 。。。more

There was some good advice in the book, including addressing the mental or emotional reasons you might not be organized yet and getting your children involved to train them to be organized as they grow。 However, a lot of the advice was connected to buying more stuff to organize, and it came off as a sponsorship of the Container Store。

Started this but quit because it’s 593 pages and I don’t want to get organized that bad。 Mari Kondo much snazzier and concise。
